Darbang, Myagdi: Janapriya Secondary School in Darbang, Myagdi, has taken a progressive step beyond traditional academics by introducing a vocational training program to equip students with essential life skills. The inauguration of this program, which coincided with Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja celebrations, signifies a commitment to holistic education.

Currently, the vocational training program is focused on Class 9 students, with plans to extend it to Classes 11 and 12 in the next academic year. Every Friday, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, students will engage in practical training sessions covering house wiring, hair cutting, and tailoring. Local professionals have been enlisted as trainers to ensure the relevance and applicability of the skills being taught.

Funding for this initiative comes from the Deusibhailo program held during Tihar, highlighting community support for empowering the younger generation. The program aims to enable students to become self-employed and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Janapriya Secondary School’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in its plans to provide financial assistance to low-income students. Additionally, the school is developing a food and clothing bank to support students in need. Looking ahead, the institution envisions expanding its offerings to include sports and other creative programs, further enriching the educational experience.

Established in 2008, Janapriya Secondary School holds the distinction of being the oldest in Myagdi district. Boasting 550 students and 18 teachers, the school has a longstanding reputation for academic excellence. The introduction of the vocational training program marks a pioneering initiative in the district, setting a precedent by integrating practical skills into the curriculum.
