Professor Dr. Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The selection followed a rigorous process conducted by a recommendation committee, and Dr. Budhathoki succeeds Dr. Dharmakant Baskota in the role.

Kathmandu, Feb 20: Professor Dr. Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki has been selected as a candidate of the new Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University.

A recommendation committee was formed by the Prime Minister and Chancellor to oversee the appointment process. The committee included Education, Science, and Technology Minister Ashok Kumar Rai, Education Secretary Suresh Adhikari, and Dr. Chandrakala Ghimire, Head of the Department of Buddhist Studies at the University.

Out of the 43 candidates who applied, the committee shortlisted 14 and interviewed them. They ultimately recommended three names for the position, including Dr. Budhathoki, Prof. Dr. Kesharjung Baral, and Prof. Dr. Tanknath Dhamala.

Dr. Budhathoki takes over from Dr. Dharmakant Baskota, whose term ended on Kartik 18, 2080 BS. He will be responsible for overseeing the university’s operations and shaping its future direction. The appointment process was transparent and merit-based, and it reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that qualified and capable individuals are appointed to key positions in the education sector.

Dr. Budhathoki’s appointment is a significant step in the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education and academic leadership in Nepal. It is hoped that he will continue to make progress in these areas during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor.
