Kathmandu, March 3, 2024: In a recent development surrounding the untimely demise of Shalin Pokharel, the young student found dead inside Shishu Niketan School in Chitwan, the post-mortem conducted at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital has ruled out any signs of rape or sexual assault.
Shalin’s lifeless body was discovered in the school’s dormitory room on February 10. Following the incident, the body was initially taken to Bharatpur Hospital for post-mortem. However, under undisclosed pressure, the family withdrew the body from the hospital and brought it to the attention of the police in Kathmandu.
Today, TU Teaching Hospital officially sent the post-mortem report to the police, concluding that the cause of Shalin’s death was hanging, indicating suicide. This aligns with the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, which also pointed towards suicide.
The police had faced mounting pressure due to the circulation of rumours on social media suggesting rape and murder. The post-mortem results, however, have dispelled these rumours and confirmed that Shalin Pokharel’s death was a tragic case of suicide.
The incident underscores the importance of accurate information dissemination and the potential consequences of unverified claims on social media. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and rely on official statements to avoid spreading misinformation during sensitive situations
